I think this bill will provide a lot of research as to why women get abortions as well as give women resources they can use so they don’t feel like they have to get an abortion. While I think it is good that they will use this information to help redirect women’s reason to get an abortion, I’m wondering if anyone else thinks it may be an invasion of a woman’s privacy by following objective number six. It is good though that they are offering support to these mothers that may have no one else to lean on. I also think its great they are expanding programs like WIC because in these economic times, more woman will need these resources and these programs may not be able to accommodate the increase in clients. All in all, your blog looks great and I think you all are doing a good job.
Heather,
Thanks for you thoughts and concerns with this bill. Objective 6 goals are to provide services to patients receiving positive test diagnosis of Down syndrome or other prenatally diagnosed conditions. The purpose of this goal is to a provide support systems for these women during their pregnancy. Some supportive measure may include support groups or therapy. They may also direct them to other resources to help them deal or cope with these types of diagnosis. Like you mentioned, this objective will be a great resource for mothers to use when they have no one else to lean on.
I also agree that programs like WIC will be expended as well. I think it’s a great program that allocates financial help to women that need it. Thanks again for your thoughts, and support for this bill.
I think this bill is excellent and corresponds with our blog and bill (Unplanned Pregnancy). If our bill does not get passed, it is good to know that their are very similar bills in process as well. I am especially impressed with the bills intentions to support pregnant and parenting college students. Being in the nursing program, we all know how hard college can be alone. I can only imagine being pregnant or with child. Support for college students will provide a better home for the child because the parent will be able to get a better job with an education. Excellent page ladies!
